The Terroir
A set of natural factors (climate/soil/grape variety/practices), which, enhanced by specific human action, give rise to a unique and inimitable product.
The Terroir
With a privileged location in one of the most majestic valleys of the Tua River, in the Douro Superior region, Quinta do Carvalhido enjoys a continental climate with four well-defined seasons and significant thermal variation. Its schist soils transitioning from granite, the careful selection of grape varieties that best thrive under these conditions, the adaptation of viticulture techniques, and their continuous improvement, combined with the dedication of everyone involved, are the key aspects that allow us to elevate the wines produced here.

Land and Vineyards of Quinta do Carvalhido
Although the history of Quinta do Carvalhido dates back to the 18th century, it wasn’t until 2013 that the most significant vineyard projects were undertaken, such as the selection of grape varieties and the placement of vines according to the specific characteristics of the estate, with the support of Engineer José Miguel Telles and Winemaker Francisco Batista. For the red varieties, the main focus was on Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz. For the white varieties, Arinto, Viosinho, and Rabigato were chosen.
